A team of leading scientists translating complex genomic and biological evidence into clear, defensible opinions — for the courtroom and beyond.
Engage the TeamBioLaw Consulting Group provides expert witness and scientific consulting services to plaintiff and defense counsel in cases where biological evidence is central to the outcome. Our team combines doctoral-level expertise in genetics, genomics, biostatistics, and translational biology — backed by the analytical rigor that courts demand.
Whether the case involves whole-genome sequencing data from a foodborne outbreak, pathogen attribution in product liability litigation, genetic evidence in a clinical dispute, statistical analysis of medical data, or microbial source tracking, BioLaw delivers opinions grounded in peer-reviewed science and communicated with the clarity judges and juries require.
Prior engagements span expert opinion reports, genomic epidemiology analysis, biostatistical modeling, prosecution strategy memoranda, deposition support, and courtroom testimony across federal and state litigation.
From initial case assessment through trial, our team provides comprehensive scientific support tailored to the demands of litigation.
Comprehensive written opinions offered to a reasonable degree of scientific certainty. Reports are structured to meet federal and state evidentiary standards and are written to be understood by both counsel and the court. Our team covers genetics, genomics, biostatistics, and translational biology — under one roof.
Primary analysis of sequencing data, genomic databases, and biological evidence — including WGS-based outbreak attribution, SNP phylogenomics, variant interpretation, and biostatistical modeling of clinical and population datasets. We perform original analysis, not just literature review.
Confidential scientific strategy memoranda for counsel, anticipating defense arguments and identifying the strongest scientific framing for the case. Deposition preparation, opposing expert review, and expert testimony in deposition and at trial — with a track record of clear, credible communication under cross-examination.
BioLaw Consulting Group is led by internationally recognized researchers who are actively publishing scientists — not retired academics. Our opinions reflect current, peer-reviewed science.
A Professor at Johns Hopkins University and Duke University, Dr. Katsanis has published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers spanning genetics, genomics, molecular biology, and cellular biology. His research has shaped the scientific understanding of inherited disease, functional genomics, and translational biology, earning broad recognition across scientific and medical communities. He has advised corporations, governments, and NGOs in the United States and Europe on matters at the intersection of science, medicine, and policy. Recipient of the American Society of Human Genetics Curt Stern Award and co-founder of Galatea Bio and Antithesis Therapeutics.
A leading authority in biostatistical methodology and translational research design, Dr. Messinger is Professor of Biostatistics and Director of the Division of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She also serves as Director of the Research Design and Biostatistics Program at the Miami Clinical and Translational Science Institute, where she provides statistical leadership across a wide portfolio of federally funded studies. Her work spans clinical trials, genomics, cardiovascular disease, transplantation, and population-based research. She holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in Biostatistics from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
A specialist in the analysis of genetic and genomic data, Dr. Mourtzi brings computational precision and broad analytical range to BioLaw's work. Her expertise covers the interpretation of large-scale sequencing datasets, health outcomes data, genome-wide association analyses, and statistical modeling across clinical and population cohorts. She is adept at translating complex, multi-layered data into clear and defensible findings across diverse genetic and medical contexts. Currently a Geneticist at Galatea Bio, she serves as the team's primary analytical resource.
BioLaw brings together expertise in genetics, genomics, and biostatistics under one engagement — so counsel receives a coordinated scientific perspective, not a single narrow opinion.
Our team members are publishing researchers whose opinions are grounded in ongoing work and current with the peer-reviewed literature — a credibility that is difficult to challenge on cross-examination.
We do not simply summarize published literature. Where the case requires it, we perform original genomic and statistical analysis using the same tools and pipelines used by leading research institutions and federal agencies.
Complex science explained clearly. Reports and testimony are crafted so that non-specialist judges and jurors can follow the reasoning — without sacrificing scientific integrity or precision.
